I hope you are in the mood for the usual Bolly Tuesday and
you are ready to follow me through the journey of Karan, Raj and Priya.
Again, I apologize for not completing this article in one
go; but my dear, its almost 4000 words now and by the time am done it should be
more. To follow the story, kindly read parts 1, 2, 3 and 4
Let’s roll the tape…
When Priya realized she was in love with her husband, Karan
suddenly seems irrelevant in her life. She makes a vow to tell Karan off and love
no one but her husband.
Meanwhile, Harry who had been trailing Priya and Karan
suddenly calls Karan out of the blues. He tells him how he witnessed Jojo’s
death and threatens to give him up to the police if he didn’t pay a certain
amount of money to him. Karan goes blank and fear grips him. So he goes about
gathering the money to pay Harry off.
Harry receives the money but greed is a shortcoming that
mankind is yet to find a cure for; so he keeps coming back for more. Karan tells
him he is short on cash and would pay him when the deal with Raj is completed
but Harry would have none of that. When Karan sees that there is no convincing
Harry; he trails him to the gym one day and seals his lips forever. But how was
he to know that when Harry got the first stab to the chest and knew he was dying
( as Karan hid for a moment from a policeman passing by) he had placed a call
to Raj’s office leaving a message about Jojo’s murder and of his wife and
Karan’s betrayal and plan.
Karan disposes of Harry’s body and goes about like nothing happened.
When he receives Priya’s call, he is elated. Their plan is
finally falling into place and no Harry would stop it. So he awaits Priya on
the day she is to come. But when Priya comes, she gives him a shocker.
She tells him she cannot bring herself to betray the love
her husband has for her. She goes on to tell him that when she walked round the
sacred fire on her wedding day, she made promises to Raj that she cannot break.
Karan is in a daze. This cannot be happening to him. He asks her of the
promises she made to him and the answer she gives chills him to the bone. She tells
him, that her promise to him was from a girl to her boyfriend but her promise
to Raj was from a wife to a husband with the gods as witnesses.
There and then, Karan is convinced she would not budge and
being the criminal he is, a thought comes into his head. Unknown to Priya, he
uses his mobile phone to dial his land line at home; and then picks up and
pretends he is speaking with Harry. He begs Harry on the phone not to tell Raj
about Priya and that he would give him any amount he asks for.
When the call ends, Priya is shivering with fear and asked
him who it was on the phone. He tells her it is Harry and that he wants to tell
their entire plan to Raj. She panics and promises to bring her jewelries to pay
him off since Karan said he had no money. They agree on a day, time and place
for the drop.
When she gets home that day, her husband who had been
worried sick of her whereabouts asks her where she is coming from. She tells
him she went to see an Uncle of theirs.
She believes in her heart that paying Harry off is the last
thing she has to do to live in peace with her husband, but how wrong that
assumption proves to be.
Few days later, while Raj is in his office, the same Uncle
Priya had said she went to visit on the day she went to see Karan comes
complaining of having not seen them since their wedding day. Raj is surprised since
his wife claimed to have been at their place days earlier. He is still contemplating
this when Karan calls him putting a cloth over the mouthpiece of the phone to
muffle and change his voice.
He pretends to be someone else and tells him of his wife’s
affair with Karan. He tells him he is being played for a fool and that his wife
shares his wealth with her lover. Raj is enraged but does not believe him. Raj moves
to end the call but is stopped by Karan’s next words. He tells him to come to
the same place he is to collect the pay-off jewelries from Priya, on the same
day they are to meet. He didn’t forget to give him time. He wants to prove to
Raj he is telling the truth about the affair.
On that day, Raj follows his wife secretly to the spot and
hides behind a window. Karan makes sure they are both visible and when Priya
handed over the suitcase filled with the jewelries, Karan opens it and makes
sure Raj can see the contents. He then tells Priya he is happy for her and
wishes her a happy married life; but asks her for one last hug before they finally
part ways. That hug sealed her fate. As soon as their bodies meet in a hug, Raj
is red with anger. There and then, he believed the stranger’s call.
He staggers back to his car and drives back to his office. Thoughts
run through his head starting from the moment he met Priya; playing back slowly
every moment. He feels like a fool and in anger topples his work desk. Immediately
that happens, the ‘ON’ button on his answering machine is mistakenly activated
and Harry’s voice fills the room.
Harry lets him know in the tape of Jojo’s death and how
Karan is in the process of killing him. He tells him even more about his wife’s
affair with Karan. That and the episode he witnessed earlier makes the decision
for him.
From that moment, he treats his wife like a plague. He stops
smiling or laughing with her. He hates the sight of her.
He thinks long and hard and then pays Karan a visit.
When Karan gets home and finds Raj sitting quite relaxed in
his home, he thinks he is there to make him a deal. Which he really is; but not
the kind Karan has in mind.
While in his home, Raj takes time to rummage through Karan’s
library and discovers the young man had done proper research on him before
their first ever meeting. The newspaper clippings and other documents are proof
of that.
He is filled with hate and so when Karan tries to play smart
by mouthing off on his relationship with his wife, Raj gives him no chance. He manhandles
him so much that Karan becomes a bit scared.
Raj then plays the tape recording of Harry’s voice with the
confession. Karan nearly wet his pants. So Raj tells him he has a proposition for
him. He tells him he would pay him millions of Lakhs (India’s currency) to kill
his wife. That proposition comes as a shock to Karan. He let her know that the
extent to which he loved Priya is the extent to which he hates her now and
seeing as he (Karan) has had no difficulty ending lives for no pay in the past,
this would not be a problem for him.
Karan accepts the deal and they agree on the day he would
come and pick the money.
Priya on the other hand has been feeling really guilty of
what she did to her husband and when she meets her childhood friend at a
wedding, she confesses to her seeking her advice. Her friend immediately tells
her to confess everything to her husband since she is no longer involved. She agrees
with her friend.
While Priya is at the wedding, Raj invites Karan over to pay
him and show him how to enter the house on the day of the murder. Karan shows
up with a very large suitcase to collect the money and Raj is filled with scorn
for him. He pays him the money and then shows him how to enter the house, the
location of the phone with which he would call Priya on that day and how he
would escape.
The day fixed for the murder is the same day Priya is
supposed to end the supposed fast and have sex with her husband. Priya filled
with genuine love for her husband, looks forward to the day.
When she returns from the wedding, she makes a tape
recording confessing to Raj everything and telling him how much she loves him. She
then tells him in the recording to call her just once if he decides to forgive
her but that she would understand if he didn’t. She rushes that morning to her
husband’s car and replaces the cassette he loved to listen to with her
confession. She hopes he will play it on his way to work.
As her husband prepares to leave for work that morning, she
asks him if he remembers what that day meant to them. He tells her he sure does
as he tells himself; it was the day that marked her end. When she gave him his
usual orange juice in a glass, his rage is so much that he squeezes the glass
till it breaks. Priya is genuinely concerned and has no way of knowing what is
running through her hubby’s mind. He immediately waves her off and goes to the
car.
As her puts his hand in to retrieve the cassette case and
listen to his favorite song, his Assistant shows up at the window telling him
something. He forgets to play the tape and heads off to work.
At work, all through his management meeting, his eyes are
stuck on the clock waiting for the set time. Immediately the clock strikes
noon, he dismisses the meeting to make the call. The call that would end the life
of the beautiful Priya.
Priya has dressed in her wedding regalia and is putting on
her jewelries when the intruder comes in. He hides in the kitchen according to
plan and waits for the phone call that would bring Priya running.
Soon the call comes. Raj waits patiently as the phone rings.
He had told Karan to ensure that the phone wasn’t replaced in its cradle so
that he would hear Priya die. As the phone rings angrily, Priya races from the
bedroom. She believes her husband has listened to the tape confession and is
calling to tell her he has forgiven her. That thought put the springs in her step
as she speeds to the kitchen. She gets there breathless and lifts the receiver.
She puts the phone to her ear and listens. Hearing no sound,
she calls the name that her heart beat for. When Raj hears his name, he is surprised.
How did she know it is him? While he wonders, the killer pounces on Priya. The receiver
falls from her hand as she struggles for her life.
They struggle endlessly as Raj listens on; and just when it
looks like the fight and brutality would not end it does with a stab and the
splash of blood.
Raj heaves a sigh and with a heart filled with sorrow, he
slots in his favorite cassette to listen to some music.
Chynwe’s hand is paining her o! Please my lovely people, can
I continue this next week? I promise that will be the last installment on this
movie… And don’t curse or draw conclusions yet on the story. What happens next
will shock you to the marrow!
