Mummy’s Wednesday: Love your body despite the changes!

I wrote about mums getting the sexy back last week, a young man on NairaLand commented making fun of mums and saying that no amount of sexy will cover up the drooped breast except surgery.

This kind of men are the ones that make mothers feel bad about the changes their bodies went through in the process of childbirth. It’s not like women can prevent the changes they experience when they are about to bring a life into the world; nature and God made it so.

While some women exist who don’t change much after childbirth, there are some who experience massive changes after the babies. But no one has the right to insult a mother because of changes she cannot help. And I mean it.

It is necessary for every woman who has given birth to engage in some form of exercise to shed the fat accumulated during pregnancy; some don’t even add on weight. The stomach will get bigger than it was. Many mums including me have complained of our belly’s not being as flat as it used to be; but truth is, if we are asked to go back to not having a child so that we can have our sexy tummy’s back, it’d sound like a curse right?

Every wife’s pride is in being a mother. Sacrifices are there to be made and we should not feel bad about the changes. In fact husbands are meant to appreciate their wives after they have accomplished such a feat and not frown when she removes her clothes or complain continuously. What can help is the husband lovingly encouraging the wife to go through exercises with him. Make her feel sexy so that she has no qualms undressing in your presence.

For such changes like stretch marks, some ointments are in the market claiming to do the magic of having them disappear. Frankly, I do not want mine to disappear since its not much. It is a gentle reminder that I sacrificed something for this chubby boy that turns my house upside down. If you try to have it off all to no avail, my dear, don’t sweat it lest you begin to feel unattractive and uncomfortable in your own skin.

If it’s about the breasts, would you rather you didn’t breastfeed your child? Pulease! Get to the mall and pick out all of those wonderful bras that make your breasts appear perky and proceed to rock the look. The only person who gets to see the breasts is the husband and he better not complain since the breasts got that way breastfeeding his child.

Make no mistake about it, every woman’s breast (even those without children) will fall one day. Its just a matter of days before age begins to tell on it else the person opts for a surgery.

Feel good about your body after childbirth irrespective of the changes. Go on a diet to lose the weight, throw in a good portion of exercises; but if the results are not as pleasant as before the baby, enjoy the new look. No one can love you more than you love yourself except God; so the sooner we stop looking at magazines wishing we were as skinny as the naked babes on there, the better for us.

Hey, even Aishwarya Rai, the drop-dead-gorgeous Bollywood star actress and one time Miss Universe looked fat eight months after her baby and she said she wasn't in a hurry to lose the weight. She just wanted to bask in the feeling of being a mum...

Have a pleasant day mums!
