Landlord jailed for converting house to hotel

An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a landlord to one year imprisonment for operating a hotel in his house, without licence.

The President of the Court, Mr Adewale Eko, convicted Godwin Omadibi with an option of N200,000 fine for illegally using his house at No. 22 Onilewura St., Egbe, Lagos State, as a guest house.

The prosecuting Environmental Health Officer, Mrs Nimota Abdulsalam, had told the court that the landlord turned a living premises into a hotel, which was not registered with the state government.

"The accused was evading tax; he didn't make it known to the government that the house is both residential and a hotel.
"He was subletting his flat as a guest house without collecting a licence from the government," she said.

Abdulsalam said that the landlord rented his apartment out to people on weekly, monthly or yearly basis.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 7of Public Health Law Cap 160, 1994 and Section 28 of Environment Sanitation Law of Lagos State, 2000.

Hahaha….. The man has seen a new source for additional revenue (that is if he had something else doing).
